Old Town

Located on the west bank of the Mohegan River, the “Old Town” encompasses the surviving remnants of colonial New Bristol. The center of Old Town is The Commons, a twenty acre park and outdoor entertainment venue. Other noteworthy Old Town cites include The Public House, the oldest continuously operating drinking establishment in New Bristol, and the Erwin Lanbroek House, a museum of New Bristol’s colonial history.

According to urban legend, Old Town is haunted by a ghost wearing the garb of a wealthy 17th century Dutchman. Legend has it that the Dutchman is the spirit of a Dutch colonist who refused to acknowledge British authority following the ceding of the city, and was shot upon The Commons for his insolence.
